M-PESA, the leading Fintech in Africa is on a transformation journey from a Payment wallet to a digital lifestyle platform for Consumers and digital marketplace for Businesses. As part of the transformation we have Launched a consumer and business Superapp in Kenya market with over 4M users already in under 6 months. For this exciting platform we are looking for a senior product Manager to craft and execute the product/Platform strategy for millions of customers on M-PESA Superapp. You will develop and lead an agile team to deliver daily delightful experiences to M-PESA customers.

The ideal candidate for this role brings extensive experience leading and growing two-sided digital marketplaces and strong track record of shipping products with significant customer impact. In this role you will need to skillfully balance your team between exploring big ideas that deliver outsized results while continuously delivering incremental impact for our customers.

As a Senior Product Manager for M-PESA Superapp, you'll be closely collaborating with designers, engineers, Quality Assurance and other cross-functional team members to build a lifestyle platform that delights our users daily, using modern best practices.

The role will report to Tribe Lead – Payment Tribe.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own the overall product roadmap, and manage prioritization and tradeoffs against customer experience, and time to market for strategic and high visibility initiatives.
  • Craft a compelling long-term vision for M-PESA Superapp that will drive success for our customers and for Safaricom PLC.
  • Constant engagement with customers to understand how we can drive more value for them to be more successful and advocate internally as their voice for the future of our products.
  • Define functional & technical requirements by leveraging industry & user research, data gathering and analysis, hypothesis testing through experimentation and actively seeking out user feedback early in the planning process as well as throughout product lifecycle.
  • Partner with M-PESA Africa Digital agile release train (ART) on joint roadmaps, dependencies, and influence feature backlogs based on product objectives and business needs.
  • Prioritize epics and user stories to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value that are aligned with product strategy. Closely evaluate and balance new systems requirements with technical trade-offs and the impact of tech debt.
  • Partner with technology, Customer operations, Corporate security and Channels teams, to continuously improve the customer experience leading to an intuitive, always available, leakage free M-PESA as commitment to our customers.
  • Define goals and expected outcomes of roadmap items, aligning with portfolio objectives and key results (OKRs)
  • Effectively translate business strategies into product strategies, value increments, and product specifications to deliver against our core customer value propositions, and our company strategic and financial goals.
  • Participate in day to day product team activities, driving high quality customer experiences and exploring what is possible with technology.
  • Improve platform architecture to support current and future initiatives.
  • Coaching and mentoring the agile squad - leading to success and meeting goals
  • Apply experience of DevOps best practices to enable highly available, reliable and secure systems and processes. Responsible for the target production uptime of the M-PESA Superapp.
  • Manage portfolio of Miniprograms that support 3rd Party providers launching Miniapps on M-PESA while ensuring value is realized for both Safaricom and Miniprograms partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in product strategy at a consumer tech/ecommerce company and/or strategy consulting with exposure to consumer tech/ecommerce and/or product management.
  • Demonstrated success managing high-availability digital products in social platforms, lifestyle platforms, FinTech or eCommerce.
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies
  • Demonstrated technical acumen; ability to influence and debate solutions with technical team members, to understand technology solutions and potential tradeoffs and to represent technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Data-driven mindset understand complex logic and process of interconnected data flows throughout business work-stream.
  • Strongly collaborative and effective in a cross-functional environment with the ability influence key stakeholders across organizations.
  • Strong product thinking, ability to advocate for the best customer experience and continually make prioritization decisions to focus on the best value for end customers.
  • Ability to translate product needs into technical requirements, understand technology dependencies, and discuss technical trade-offs
  • Experience setting strategic direction and ability to drive measurably successful product launches and campaigns.
  • Ability to utilize user research and data to drive actionable insights to inform marketing strategy and improve the user experience.
