Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provide care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Units as well as supervise critical care staff.
  • Evaluates patients who may require critical care from the Emergency Department or other inpatient units, including consultations for emergencies in other critical care units.
  • Team leader in the Emergency responses Team and supervises medical house staff in Medical Codes, and Rapid Response Teams.
  • Ensures continuous medical cover for all patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and liasoning with other medical specialties as required.
  • Ensuring plans are acted upon and specific diagnostic tests carried out diligently.
  • Train all staff in ICU management, maintain infection control practices and Airway management.
  • Co-ordinate communication with patient’s relatives, referring hospitals.
  • Respectfully collaborate with a diverse set of team members
  • Minimum Qualifications and Experience 

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
    • Master of Medicine in internal medicine from a recognized institution.
    • Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine from a recognized institution.
    • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
    • Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC.
    • Valid Practice License.
    • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
    • Proficiency in computer applications.
    • At least one (1) year working experience as an Intensivist in a busy hospital.
