Our client is a well established NGO specializing in wildlife conservation. They wish to recruit a Communications Manager who will guide the development and roll-out of the organization’s communication strategy and plan, aligned to the organizations strategic plan, and serve as the complimentary point-of-contact for the organization in the management of external and internal publics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Chief of Party and other project staff to develop implement and manage high-level communications and/or marketing strategies across mediums (web and email, print, digital media, and mass media) to support the organization’s work.
  • Develop a branding and marking plan for the organization’s projects, and maintain, manage and update organization’s brand and style on all digital and print materials and in all its programmes/events.
  • Communicate organizational goals, mission, and vision for internal and external stakeholders to increase organizational recognition and impact within and beyond the sector and country.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to brand ideals in all external and internal communications and events and coordinate publicity activities.
  • Serve as part of a team that determines communications and fundraising goals, evaluates outcomes, and recommends future strategies.
  • Work with the Chief of Party and other staff cross-departmentally to ensure communications needs and goals across the organization are met.
  • Work within the parameters of the organization’s communications and annual budget.
  • Develop social media goals and content, and work with communications staff to implement social media strategy as a part of organization’s overall communications strategy related to its educational offerings, membership, public policy, initiatives, and sector-wide storytelling.
  • Assess, monitor and report performance metrics that show the effectiveness and impact of existing web, email, and social media initiatives, as well as determine new opportunities or strategies based on available data.
  • Work with other staff to coordinate delivery of captivating content, features and reports via multimedia productions, at regular agreed upon intervals
  • Plan and implement engagement plan with the organization’s stakeholders, internal and external publics, and maintain effective relationships with them.
  • Cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with media firms, agencies and ensure maximum publicity for the organization

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in social sciences, journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
  • 5 years Proven experience as a Communications specialist/role, with demonstrated success and supervisory experience [organizational and leadership] in strategic communication in the conservation or related sector[s] .
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communication technologies and the provision of online platforms for diverse audiences in Africa.
  • Extremely proficient with MS office suite and desktop publishing software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) with Working knowledge of content management systems and social media platforms
  • Understanding of media relations and evolving communication /media strategies [digital]

  • A masters in relevant field will be an added advantage
