Background:
The Center for International Health, Education and Biosecurity (Ciheb) — Kenya is a local nongovernmental organization collaborating with the Ministry of Health and County Health Management Teams to strengthen health systems for improved quality of healthcare in Kenya. Ciheb-Kenya is collaborating with the county governments of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Nairobi, Kisumu, and Migori to support the implementation and expansion of high quality, sustainable, and comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs, and expansion of COVID19 vaccination with funding from the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Through the County Ownership and Networks to maintain Nairobi Epidemic Control (CONNECT) program, Ciheb-Kenya and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) are working on a collaborative project towards the provision of high quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services to select health facilities in Nairobi City County. The project is therefore seeking for suitably qualified persons able to fill the positions of the positions below. The positions will be based at the various county health facilities in Nairobi within the County Health Services Department and mainstreamed into the county
structures. These are one-year fixed term contracts, renewable based on performance and availability of funding.

Overall Function:
Reporting to the facility in-charge, the main responsibility of the Adherence Counsellor is to provide education on HIV and HIV-related topics and adherence counseling services at the health facility level within an HIV Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC).
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Participate in retesting of newly identified HIV-positive clients.
2. Provide continuous psychosocial support as well as treatment preparation to clients in the CCC.
3. Coordinate patient tracking activities including appointment booking, defaulter tracing activities, home visits, and referrals of patients where necessary.
4. Identify and address barriers to adherence and strengthen adherence counseling for all patient populations, including patients with viremia, adolescents, and children.
5. Organize and facilitate support group sessions for infected and affected clients including priority groups i.e., facility ART groups, Treatment literacy classes, discordant couples, adolescent and young people, patients with viremia, and children.
6. Support clients disclose their HIV status with a focus on pediatrics and adolescents.
7. Facilitate the delivery of Positive Health Dignity & Prevention (PHDP) information to clients enrolled in CCC.
8. Ensure proper documentation of client records, registers and reports.
9. Ensure all contacts of index clients with unknown HIV status are tested and documented in clients records.
10. Supervise the and peer educators to optimize performance.
11. Conduct CQI activities to improve gaps identified based on data.
12. Work closely with community strategy team to optimize on physical tracing of the clients.
Academic Qualifications:
 Diploma in Counseling Psychology
 NASCOP Certified HTC (HIV Testing and Counselling) Counsellor
Experience and Skills:
 Two (2) years’ experience, one (1) year of which should be as an Adherence Counsellor in HIV service delivery
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
 Computer literacy
