As part of strengthening our operations, we are looking for a confident, motivated and highly ambitious team player to join the   Editorial   team in the following capacities:

DIGITAL SUB EDITOR

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Reporting to the Digital Editor, the digital sub-editor is responsible for making sure that the material is fit for the digital platforms by adapting the content, adding digital-specific requirements and subbing where necessary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly update the home page and the indices, supported by Analytics feedback
  • Make time-sensitive adjustments to stories, correct minor errors and keep on top of ‘furniture’ (such as automated feeds) and update them as required.
  • Provide regular feedback to Intake desks
  • Work closely with the Radar Desk to make sure breaking news stories are readily published, together with important updates for developing stories.
  • Work closely with the Echo Desk to ensure that digital stories are well promoted and audience interaction feedback is provided for improvements to indices and stories.
  • Work closely with the Audiovisual Desk to ensure that graphics and video content are available at the right time and in the right format.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Media, Journalism or related discipline
  • An advanced certification in digital journalism
  • 3 - 4 years’ relevant experience with a bias in a newsroom and digital media.

SKILLS AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES:

  • In depth knowledge of current affairs, media trends and social media networks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong decision making skills.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Keen eye on details.
