 SOCIAL MEDIA SUB - EDITOR

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Reporting to the Echo Editor,the social media sub-editor   shall be responsible promoting the right content at the right time to the right public and in the right language on social media platforms.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the editors, journalists, production and commercial teams etc. to implement the best practices in social media and get new audiences on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, Tiktok and Instagram.    
  • Monitor and alerts the Newsroom on trending topics on social media and all the multimedia spaces where users participate and plans interaction strategies
  •  Interact with the users via the official Standard and KTN News handles and answer sensible questions that arise on social media (e.g. mistakes on Standard sites, print editions, TV or radio, critics, etc.) while referring sensitive questions or complaints to the appropriate Editor.  
  • Train all journalists on how to use social media, promote content on social media, tips to increase traffic and engagement on the different products.   
  • Monitor the emergence of new social media platforms and assess each platform’s potential value to the Standard Group and make recommendations which to test, in conjunction with the Digital Desk. 
  •  Understand the brand and the community and ensure all plans and activities meet internal needs and audience expectations.
  • Ensure all output is of appropriate quality and complies with all relevant Standard Group guidelines, procedures, social media policy and platform best practice.
  • Ensuring compliance with editorial journalistic code of ethics and house style.
  • Produce detailed weekly and monthly performance reports and post-campaign reports where appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Media, Journalism or related discipline.
  • An advanced certification in digital journalism will be an added advantage.
  • 3 years’ relevant experience with a bias in a newsroom and digital media.

SKILLS AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES:

  •  In depth knowledge of current affairs, media trends and new social networks
  •  Proven verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Good knowledge of social scheduling and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and Buffer.
  • Familiarity with all major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Telegram and YouTube.
  • Strong design knowledge and proficiency in design tools such as Photoshop and Canva
  • Highly engaging, versatile, and adaptable.
