General Nurse - Private Wing

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Clinical team to guide patients through their treatment process, directly supporting adult patients in managing their medical issues and delivering care according to the treatment plan.

Follow all nursing procedures as outlined in the policies and guidelines, and report any significant incidents or events within 24 hours using the available tools.

Keep a close watch on a patient's condition and how they respond to treatment and medications.
This includes checking their physical and mental well-being and adjusting their care plan as needed.

Administer and manage medications properly, following all set policies and procedures.

Take part in ward rounds, receive updates from the nurse finishing their shift, and make sure that all doctors have explained any procedures and have gained patient consent.

Manage and maintain patient information and records accurately.

Protect patient safety by following the six International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).

Oversee the work of Patient Attendants according to their roles and responsibilities.

Maintain infection control standards as outlined in the policies and apply infection control measures like SSI, VAP, CAUTI, and CLABSI when necessary.

Prepare the emergency trolley for quick access during resuscitation, ensure that medications and supplies are always available, report any damaged equipment immediately, and keep and update a checklist as needed.

Help keep the unit financially stable by managing costs and ensuring proper pre-authorization and documentation.

Follow all Avenue Healthcare policies on corporate governance, including preventing, identifying, and reporting any fraud or illegal activities, and carry out audit recommendations.

Have a thorough understanding and obey all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially those related to medical services like admissions and discharges, nursing reports, equipment, and supplies.

Follow government and professional standards of patient care as set by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Hold a BScN or a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN).
A Higher Diploma in Nursing is a plus.

Have a valid nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Possess a valid certification in BLS and ACLS.

Have at least two years of experience in a busy healthcare setting.

Be customer-oriented and focused on achieving results.

Have strong interpersonal skills, be a good team player, and communicate effectively.

Be responsive, ethical, and responsible
