Job Purpose Statement
Enterprise Data Management ("EDM") is a process that seeks to ensure Data in NCBA Group PLC is accurate and consistent to meet the strategic and business goals. "EDM" has eight key capabilities i) Data Architecture (DA); ii) Data retention & archiving (DRA); iii) Data quality management (DQM); iv) Metadata management ("MM"); v) Master data Management (MDM); vi) Data privacy & security (DPS) vii) Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) and viii) Data governance.
The Data Engineer transforms data into a format that can be easily analyzed, by developing, maintaining, and testing infrastructures for data generation. In addition, the data engineer uses various data extraction, transformation and loading tools to convert raw data into usable information while applying best practice data warehousing techniques.
The Data Engineer is responsible for the following:

•  Develop, maintaining, testing, evaluating and implementing data solutions in line with the data architecture design.
•  Creation, scheduling, testing, deployment, and maintenance, of data pipeline from different sources to required destination with the required transformations for reporting (ETL).
•  Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources, maintain databases/data systems, and apply ETL procedures to normalize data.
•  Gather information from business users to understand their detailed requirements and expectations, analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modelling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgement and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy.

• Carry out analysis of requirements and recommend solutions to address user requirements. Manage the queue of requests and communicate to the appropriate advanced analytics, BI or data management functions.
• Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on system configuration or set up, carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI reports as well as deal with data, dashboards and report queries from users and resolve or advise them accordingly.

Ideal Job Specifications Academic:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related degree from a recognized university

Desired work experience:

•  Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Data engineering, BI & Software Development using Oracle, SAP, Microsoft • Strong knowledge and experience with ETL tools (SAP Data Services, Oracle ODI, Microsoft SSIS), query languages (Oracle PL/SQL, SQL), programming languages (Java, C# )
• Experience with relational data modeling, data management and data processing.
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages in analyzing large data sets (Python, Tableau, SPS, SAS, Excel etc.) will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of Big data tools (Hadoop, Apache Hive, Scala, Kafka, Apache Spark) will be an added advantage 
• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques. 
• Working Experience with SAP Business Warehouse is highly desired. 
• Good knowledge of Windows Operating System and a fair knowledge of Unix & Linux.
