Java House, commonly referred to as ‘Nairobi Java’, opened its first store in 1999 at Adam’s Arcade in Nairobi. With the aim of introducing gourmet coffee drinking culture in Kenya, the first outlet was a coffee shop and later the brand evolved to an American diner style restaurant to its present-day status as a 3 -day part coffee-led, casual dining concept.

Java House is now one of the leading coffee brands in Africa and has grown to have outlets in 14 cities across 3 countries in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda). It has also birthed two sister brands Planet Yoghurt, a healthy, tasty and fun frozen yoghurt store and 360 Degrees Pizza, a casual dining restaurant.

Job description

Primary Purpose and Scope the Job

The Loader role is a shift based position responsible for all loading & offloading duties in line with the policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP) as part of the overall logistics and distribution objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site, performing any combination of duties.
• Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area. 
• Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Loads materials onto vehicles, installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage of goods while in transit, during loading & offloading.
• Counts, verifies, and records number of units of materials moved or handled and to be distributed to specific branch units in accordance with established procedures.
• Arrange or attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers for easy identification during loading & offloading.
• Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together for easy identification, loading and offloading during distribution.
• Lifts heavy objects by hand or using power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment, using broom, rags, and cleaning compounds, to assist machine operators.
• Ensure that the vehicles are thoroughly clean & hygienic before loading or placing materials on the vehicle service.
• Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries while performing heavy lifting and operating equipment. This includes required safety gear and handling machines and moving parts with caution. 
• Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required

Qualifications

• High School Certificate.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year driving experience in a commercial set up preferred
• Experience of working in an FMCG environment
• Experience in operating manual handling equipment is desirable

• Endures cold working conditions
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals
• Manual handling of fragile and/or heavy components 
• The position requires physical endurance as it involves standing for a considerable length of time, bending, stooping and lifting up to 20 kg
