Job Description

The University of Nairobi’s Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases Support Program is looking to fill two (2) positions of Laboratory Technologist to meet the growing demand for advanced molecular diagnostics services. The successful candidates will play a key role in supporting the National HIV Reference Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced molecular diagnostic tests such as HIV Viral Load, Early Infant Diagnosis and Genotyping for drug resistance testing
  • Follow laboratory protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory
  • Collaborate with other laboratory professionals to ensure seamless operation of the laboratory
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in molecular diagnostics techniques

Education:

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Microbiology from a recognized institution

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a busy molecular laboratory
  • Advanced knowledge of DNA and RNA PCR and genetic analysis protocols

Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to follow laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Ability to keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in molecular diagnostics techniques
