About the Role
Main Purpose
- Carry out assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and documentation through conducting psychological assessment of mental health patients.
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health outcomes.
- Conducting psychoeducation to patients and caregivers on illness symptoms, treatment and drug adherence. Conduct follow-up and referral of patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, for holistic care and to improve the patient outcomes.
- Providing mental health care within the MSF Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, through identifying SGBV cases, providing psychological care and referring to the SGBV Clinic for medical services.
- Training of relevant staff members in the department and hospital on various Mental Health topics.
- Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behaviour during sessions.
- Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities.
- Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues related to patients care in order to ensure quality of care from a medical perspective.
- Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.
Specific Accountabilities
- Carry out psychological assessment for clients on NCD clinics, follow up and provide psychological support.
- Assist in training PSEC nurses and other relevant staff on PFA and other relevant mental health topics.
- In collaboration with Health Promotion Manager train community health workers on pschological assessment, basic counselling skills and PFA.
- Facilitate home visits for patients on follow-up in the mental health program.
- Asses and offer psychotherapy to patients on follow-up in the mental health program.
- Facilitate/link clients who require psychiatric review to mental health officers.
Requirements
Education
- Essential degree in clinical/medical Psychology
Experience
- Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist
- Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Languages
- Mission language essential (English).
- Local language desirable (Somali/Kiswahili)
Knowledge
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
