About the role

  • The Programme Officer-Health & Nutrition is responsible for the overall coordination, planning, provision of technical direction and oversight to local partners implementing health and nutrition interventions in Christian Aid.
  • The role is responsible for contributing to the development of Christian Aid policy, strategy, thought leadership and communication under the health stream of work. To contribute to the representation of Christian Aid to external stakeholders on Health & Nutrition and undertake liaison and advocacy with County and National Government partners and officials on project activities and related health and nutrition issues. Coordinate and represent Christian Aid County and National authorities and ensure activities are carried out in line with National and County strategies as far as possible and their participation. (30%).
  • The   role is responsible for recommending grants to partners and leading in project and budget management in line with Christian Aid policies and procedures, that ensures effective disbursement of funds to Christian Aid partners, ensuring funds are used for approved purposes, and timely reporting based on robust data on activities, outputs, and impact of project. (30% of time)
  • In collaboration with the Programme Manager and other support functions including PFD, assist fundraising initiatives aimed at increasing the current projects portfolio size by providing information for proposal writing, seeking opportunities for participating in consortia, representing the organization in relevant fundraising forums and networks. (15%)
  • To contribute to Monitoring and Evaluation through ensuring robust data on activities, outputs, and impact of projects thus influencing evidence and learning on Health and Nutrition. (15% time)
  • Engage in personal development including reading, training, conferences, coaching among others (10%).

  • Strong portfolio of partners able to respond and support Christian Aid’s inclusive markets aspirations, advocacy, fundraising and communications agenda within respective funding streams.
  • Ensuring through efficient planning and project & budget management that projects within the portfolio are delivered on time, within budget and deliver the expected outputs and impact.
  • Compliance with financial policies and procedures including budget-variances, reporting requirements and contribution made to other team members in the development and implementation of partner capacity building and training.
  • Thought leadership through operational research, evidence-based communication products, conferences, breakfast meetings, presentations at thematic conferences, side events at development conferences among others.
  • Grant proposals based on strong project designs, planning and evaluation procedures that demonstrate the 3Ps (Power, Poverty and Prophetic voice) using Christian Aid’s internal systems.
  • Decisions on programme work in the country informed by Christian Aid’s strategic focus areas.
  • Strong linkages between partner work and advocacy, communications and fundraising roles within the UK. This role may include direct fund raising depending on location.

Role purpose

The role works within the International Programmes family and the wider Programme management remit. The role is based in Nairobi Kenya and is key ensuring quality and excellence in project and budget management that ensures grants to partners are implemented as planned, within budget, timelines and deliver intended outputs and impact. The role is tasked with projects and budget management, partnership, and network development, fundraising and Monitoring and Evaluation of partner project deliverables. Under the strategic guidance from the Program Manager at the Kenya Country Program; the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of the Inclusive Markets Program docket. S/he will be responsible for supporting project partners in planning and implementing project activities according to quality project standards, including scheduling, timely and quality reporting, organized requisitions, and documentation. The role oversees partners grants, reporting, budgeting and compliance to CA Safeguarding and donor reporting requirements. Moreover, the role enables CA to manage and build the capacity of partners.
