About the Role

Our client is a hands-on investment manager and takes an active role in the development, construction, and operations of its investments. Robust financial management is key in their ability to deliver best in class renewable energy assets in market. They have retained us to support hiring process for an experienced and high energy Financial Accountant. Reporting to the finance manager, the financial Accountant will work within existing Portfolio Finance Team and will have the responsibility for the efficient financial administration of respective portfolio / investment companies. A critical aspect of the role will be financial consolidation and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

a) Reporting

a. Internal reporting:

accurate and timely reporting of monthly management accounts to local and group management. This will include interpretation of financial reports to management by providing appropriate commentary/ analytical review to financial performance and position.

b. Lender reporting and compliance:

prepare and submit relevant compliance reports as per the various executed loan covenants. Monitor and identify corrective actions to ensure compliance with relevant loan covenants

c. Statutory audits:

facilitate and oversee external audits for investment companies to ensure they are completed on time and to budget and address any matters raised during audits as per management letters.

b) Accounting system, internal controls, and compliance

a. Accounting systems:

maintain appropriate financial records (including accounting software) and supporting documentation in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local accounting standards where applicable.

b. Internal control systems:

contribute to the periodic updating and review of the effectiveness of financial internal control systems for investee companies.

c. Tax Compliance-

ensure compliance with the applicable tax laws by investee companies. d. Banking: -

effective management of bank accounts including banking internal control systems and compliance with lender Account Agreements.

c) Planning and forecasting

a. Budgeting:

participate in the preparation of project cost budgets and in the annual budgeting process by providing necessary inputs to the investment and project management teams.

b. Cash flow forecasting:

preparation of monthly and periodic cash flow forecasting.

c. Ad hoc analytical reviews:

preparation of ad hoc forecasts and analytical reviews as may be required by different stakeholders.

d) Working capital management

a. Inventory management:

put in place inventory management processes and procedures.

b. Receivables management:

ensure investment companies effectively manage relationships with its customers, customer invoices are accurate and timely, customer reconciliations are done promptly, and debt collection is consistently optimal

c. Payables management:

ensure project companies effectively manage their accounts payables and procurement policies are adhered to.

d. Working capital forecasts –

prepare working capital forecasts for the investee companies.

e) Balance Sheet maintenance

a. Fixed assets management: review and ensure up to date Fixed Asset Registers are maintained for portfolio entities.

b. Payroll management: -

ensure compliance with relevant statutory obligations.

c. General ledger management:

implement appropriate month end closure and ensure balance sheet account reconciliations and preparation of supporting schedules are performed monthly and are accurate and up to date.

f) Others

a. Project Support Facility: -

support in the management of Project Support Facility.

b. Confidentiality:

secure the company’s financial information and documents and keep the same confidential.

c. Secondment:

the FA may be seconded to work in investment companies for periods of time.

d. Training:

Support the portfolio finance managers in staff training in key finance related tasks and procedures.

e. Any other roles and responsibility as may be assigned.

Key Skills/ Competencies/ Experience

• Experienced Finance Manager, with 5+ years’ post qualification experience, preferably working on infrastructure projects. Renewable energy experience will be an added advantage.

• Experience in financial consolidation for multiple business streams

• Experience with preparation of management accounts, financial reports, and budgeting/ forecasting.

• Experience and proficiency in the use of accounting software. ERP or SAGE Experience will be an added advantage.

• Competent in use of MS Office and general IT skills.

• Willingness to travel and visit project sites, sometimes for longer periods.

• Experience working as consolidation accountant in a corporate setting/Big4 Experience at supervisor level would be added advantage Competencies:

• Good planning and organization skills, with ability to work under minimal supervision.

• Advanced numeracy and analytical skills. Including problem analysis and problem-solving skills.

• Attention to detail, accuracy, and solution/result-oriented approach.

• Cross-functional management capability.

• Knowledge of renewable energy technologies.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills at all levels – including presentation skills

Qualifications

• Relevant university degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business Management) • Professional accounting qualification (CA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent), including membership of professional body

• Advanced level of English, both written and spoken is essential. French will be an added advantage.
