Duties

Under the supervision of the Senior Facility Manager, the Architect is the technical lead for the Facility Management (FM) section. Working with a team of skilled tradespersons and is responsible for maintaining the Embassy/New Embassy Compound building systems, including component assemblies and finishes, both interior and exterior. Oversees the design and project management of sustainment, modernization, repairs, building improvements, alterations, extensions, or restoration projects; reviews Statements of Work (SOW) and building documents to ensure designs are code compliant, functional and within budgetary restraints; acts as Contract Officer’s Representative (COR), Government Technical Monitor (GTM) or the equivalent on post facility contracts; implements all safety regulations on post facilities and residential properties.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as a project architect at a major resort, hospital, office complex, large university/school system, or similar building complex managing a preventative maintenance program that uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track maintenance requests and their expenses. 
  • The job holder must demonstrate a progression of increased responsibility including developing scopes of work, construction documents (plans and specifications) and cost estimates for new construction projects, building repairs, equipment overhauls, and equipment replacement schedules. 
  • The job holder’s experience should include one (1) year of supervisory experience.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must know principles of developing planning specific objectives, milestones, and phases for simple to complex projects, and makes needed innovations and modifications.  Must have the ability to guide and evaluate Architectural/Engineering (A/E) contractor and construction efforts and assesses technical and project progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allotted.
  • Must have knowledge of various types of local construction contractors and supply stores that can provide materials and/or service support. Must have detailed technical knowledge to lead a multi-disciplinary team performing Facility Condition Assessment inspections. Must have knowledge in design and construction practices with U.S. building codes and specifications; thorough professional knowledge in architectural design calculations and criteria; preparation of construction drawings and specifications. Must be able to prepare Statements of Work (SOW), cost estimates and draft and design computer aided designs in AutoCAD.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent, in Architecture or Architectural Engineering or similar architecture degree. 
  • The degree curriculum must: (1) be in a school of architecture with at least one curriculum accredited or equivalent by the National Architecture Accreditation Board (NAAB) or Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), or equivalent host-country architecture or engineering board, as a professional architecture curriculum.
