Summary

The purpose of the role is to initiate, organize and coordinate administrative activities for effective implementation of the project and work closely with DCW’s Language and Communication Advisor to deliver all 
technical aspects of the pilot including stakeholders’ engagement.

Description

Task Responsibilities

  • Lead in initiation, delivery and close out of the pilot project activities.
  • Provide continuous monitoring in implementation of planned activities, compilation of activity and project periodic reports as appropriate.
  • Lead in documentation and dissemination of change stories and knowledge products from the pilot.
  • Work closely with Deaf Child Worldwide Team in management and engagement of Kenya Institute of Special Education as a major stakeholder in the pilot.
  • With support from the Projects Implementation Manager (PIM)/Line Manager; engage in lobbying and advocacy with relevant Civil Society Organisations at micro, meso and macro level in influencing development and implementation of government policies necessary in enhancing deaf inclusion.
  • Lead in the administrative work of the project by organizing for logistical support to all project activities: planning, training and review workshops, conferences in target counties; and ensure invitations, follow-up, liaisons with relevant partners, volunteers, VSO Kenya staff and resource personnel are done.
  • Link the project with other ongoing VSO projects; Projects Learning platform and Education Community of Practice,
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or Special Needs Education or Social Studies.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of Kenya Sign Language.
  • Demonstrate capacity in project implementation and management.
More Details on Experience
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in Deaf Inclusion work and project implementation and management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policy and advocacy.
  • Experience working with deaf children, youth, and their families in education or livelihood initiatives or successful work with persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge on disability rights and inclusion practices.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and with minimal supervision
