Senior Librarian – Acquisition and Planning (Internal Advert)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate procedures for the development of library collections.
- Oversee library materials acquisitions and monitor expenditures.
- Develop, plan and evaluate the instructions and information Literacy schedules for both online and in-person users.
- Responsible for the analysis and implementation of library acquisitions.
- Provide leadership to the library team to help in maintaining and keeping the library collection current and useful to the user community.
- In consultation with the Head of Library Services, prepare library information resources budget estimates.
- Participate in consortium committees, and monitor communications to implement and coordinate changes in policies and procedures.
- Coordinate collection development approval plans. Establish and implement policies and procedures.
- Receive request for library materials and performs pre-order research and verification of bibliographic data.
- Review and analyze collections, conduct collection evaluation, and assess collection strengths and weaknesses in all subject areas. Collect annual usage and collect usage statistics.
- Monitor and respond to patron suggestions for items to purchase by ordering the material and sending e-mail responses.
- Verifies status of orders and invoices.
- Maintain acquisition data and statistics.
- Provide leadership for the Information Literacy function of the Library.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s in library and Information Sciences from a recognized University
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a University Library
OTHER SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge in Library Management, automation, and E-Library services.
- Information Literacy competence.
- Ability to deal with readers and colleagues in a friendly, proactive, and friendly manner.
- Demonstrated Supervisory skills
- Good knowledge of acquisition procedures
