Primary Purpose and Scope of the Job (Job Role)-

Through a business partnership approach, the jobholder will lead a team of marketers in best-practice, strategic marketing, and communication. The ideal candidate will have extensive multi-brand marketing experience with involvement from brand incubation through to the execution stages of the brands.

The Business Development & Strategy Manager is directly responsible for identifying and delivering new revenue streams for the business and delivering an effective customer relationship program that retains and builds on existing customers and business partners. They will use awareness of the distribution markets and an effective business networking approach to seek new opportunities for the business. They will be responsible for helping the group obtain better brand recognition and financial growth.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that the set targets of Group Revenue and sales are achieved and exceeded

  • Overseeing brand strategy

  • Overseeing the execution of marketing and communications annual plans via an insight-led approach.

  • Contributing to business growth by translating business requirements into marketing & communications objectives.

  • Identifying new opportunities for growth in relation to existing and new products, segments, geographies, etc.

  • Performing competitive analyses and conducting market research to maintain an updated view of key competitive changes.

  • Developing unique value propositions and marketing messaging.

  • Developing and executing an annual marketing plan.

  • Demonstrating accountability for Java's governance and operating frameworks on brand, marketing, and communications.

  • Ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and evaluated against commercial objectives.

  • Specifying market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research.

  • Continuous tracking and measuring return on investment of programs delivered and ensuring effective marketing budget utilization.

  • Responsible for developing the rolling 3-year revenue growth strategy, citing revenue streams, sales forecasts, and department budget to meet agreed targets

  • Ensuring the marketing and communications campaigns are strategically positioned to maintain brand authenticity.

  • Providing clear direction on the marketing and brand objectives.

  • Developing a network of internal and external suppliers in the context of delivery.

  • Driving and developing content on message and brand, accurately and tailored appropriately to the business needs, the target audiences, and channels to be used, ultimately acting as the gatekeeper of the brand franchise internally and externally.

  • Driving the focus on customers and customer planning throughout the businesses’ activities.

  • Leveraging on sponsorship assets to drive business & brand growth.

  • Engaging and energizing colleagues around Java’s mission, vision, and strategy.

  • Managing all Public Relations as well as providing support to Java Foundations objectives

  • Utilizing PR channels to drive market awareness, media coverage, and word of mouth among key influencers, analysts, and media through multi-channel communication strategies.

  • Develop strong relationships with business stakeholders to ensure understanding of commercial priorities and marketing and communications support requirements.

  • Developing new or enhanced products and services to meet current client needs and to anticipate future needs and future markets.

  • Defining market requirements for new offerings and developing enhancements to existing offerings based on agreed market segmentation.

  • Creating sustainable processes for new product development and for the ongoing management of products to support the business.

  • Creates and chairs suitable steering groups within the business that ensures collaboration with other departments, e.g., culinary development, food safety, manufacturing, and finance, to maintain a systemic approach to new business development

  • Responsible for building current and useful competitor database, which helps create the business impact analysis and associated business continuity plan, citing mitigation and contingency planning

  • Understands and communicates the target transfer price point and business-approved gross margins before the product engineering phase to ensure that the culinary development, procurement, and manufacturing teams are efficient in their associated work streams.

  • Identifies and resolves revenue collection issues as and when they arise, thus protecting cashflow and eliminating write off

  • Engages appropriate external market research organizations as and when justified and approved to ensure that accurate and relevant data is provided regarding revenue development or protection of existing revenue streams

  • Responsible for creating, capturing, collating, and/or analyzing all documentation relating to sales activities, including (but not limited to) invoices, contracts, export documentation, certificates of analysis, certificates of origin, and system item codes.

  • Fully aware of the government policies regarding his sphere of engagement and always acts within that framework whilst monitoring his staff for the same matter

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field or equivalent, MBA (concentration in Marketing preferred) will be an added advantage.

EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years of strategic marketing experience with at least 5 years at the senior managerial level.

  • Experience in the Food and Beverage industry is necessary with advertising and brand management expertise

  • Highly numerate, proven experience in the development of commercial strategy

  • Expert knowledge in costing, customer influence, and management with a proven record in delivering creative food solutions

  • Engagement with internal and external senior executives

  • Actively demonstrate the following behaviors: consultative, collaborative, analytical, pro-active, change-orientated, and structured, with the ability to be flexible when required

  • Results-driven, able to find solutions when faced with adverse results or conditions to achieve objectives.

  • Uses extensive industry knowledge and commercial acumen to spot commercial opportunities where others may not

  • Regularly thinks out of the box and encourages others to engage in such brainstorming activities to promote buy-in from key stakeholders and customers

  • Acts as the ‘eyes of the customer’ by holding high culinary standards, tasting commissary products as a matter of routine, and adopting a team-based 5-why approach to resolving variation in product versus specification

  • Works well within a matrix structure but is aware of how to engage peers to prevent the development of a ‘silo’ style culture

  • Self-motivated, able to implement formal and informal KPIs to identify performance drift and resolve all known causes of external prompting

  • Highly professional and affable, naturally high standard of appearance

  • An enthusiastic driver but naturally precise and detailed in documentation and process adherence

  • Must be a great team leader and great team player

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Core competency is fundamental knowledge, ability, or expertise in a specific subject area or skill set.

  • Experience in implementation and management of CRM, loyalty & rewards programs

  • A professional sales and marketing qualification such as a CIM diploma is desirable.

  • Experience in consumer marketing is essential.

  • A proven track record in selling/marketing the F&B sector will be an added advantage.

  • Experience in Research and Development.

  • A good understanding of brand management/market research.

  • Demonstrable experience in New Product Development.
