Job Description

This is a corporate accounting role which includes basic financial accounting and accounts payable duties. The Assistant Accountant responsibilities will include accounts payable management and some general ledger management. You will be reporting to the Director, Tax & Accounting. This position will be a key element to the expansion of DHL’s finance function, driven by the significant growth experienced by the business and presents a fantastic opportunity to understand and enhance the broad range of functions that need to be performed in a commercial accounting role. You will be supporting our Senior Accounting Specialist in performing the various Head Office accounting and administrative tasks. There really are no limits to what this role could be doing in any given day, but one thing we can assure you is a vibrant, fun and supportive environment where excellence is a given not a desire. 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparation and processing of month end reporting up to the trial balance stage.

• Processing of accruals, prepayments and subsequent journals

• Reconciliations including general ledger and Balance Sheet

• Assisting with the preparation of budgeting and forecasting process.

• Involvement in the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Staff expenses processing.

• Assisting in maintenance of the corporate governance software and associated tasks.

• Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the Group Finance team

• Adhoc Accounts Payable queries.

• Travel invoice reporting, accruals and processing.

• Monitor and clear GLs during month end (Cheque, AP Bank, Customer Refund).

• Reconciling bank and other GL accounts

• Raising Journals for month-end closing.

• Assistance in vendor setup and vendor management

• Monthly reporting on accounts payable systems

• Assistance in tax reporting.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum Diploma or University Degree, with a major in Finance or Accounting.

• Studying towards CPA / CA or willingness to commence

• Basic accounting skills as a minimum

• Ability to work within strict deadlines and reporting timetables

• Prioritization and organizational skills

• Strong attention to detail {analytical and numerical}.

• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Problem solving and decision making skills.

• Reliability and a can do attitude.

• Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize your work, whilst working in a fast paced environment.

• Able to show initiative and be a self-starter.

• Intermediate computer software skills, including Excel {vlook ups and pivot tables}

• Experience with using accounting ERP packages would be advantageous but not essential.
