Job Summary

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties under Planning and Design
a) assisting in preparing road investment programs for road networks;
b) assisting in preparing Public Private Partnership arrangements;
c) assisting in preparing Materials testing and research programs;
d) assisting in carrying out traffic surveys and management of traffic data;
e) assisting in collecting and collating economic, environmental and social data for
f) road investment programmes and strategies;
g) assisting in preparing engineering design of road works and structures;
h) assisting in preparing tender documentation for road works and structures;
i) assisting in preparation of work plans;
j) assisting in preparing records for road assets database;
k) performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Duties Under Construction
a) assisting in preparing short, medium- and long-term road works programmes;
b) assisting in reviewing of engineering design for road works and structures;
c) assisting in preparing and reviewing tender documentation for road works and
d) structures;
e) assisting in preparing procurement plans for road works and structures;
f) assisting in supervision of contracts;
g) assisting in undertaking road safety audits during road development; and
h) road Asset and Corridor Management
i) assisting in formulating and implementation of road asset management policies;
j) assisting in undertaking annual road inventory and condition surveys;
k) assisting in preparing engineering design of road maintenance works;
1) assisting in compiling and analyzing annual road maintenance work
m) programmes;
n) assisting in preparing tender documentation for road works;
o) assisting in supervision of maintenance contracts;
p) undertaking public sensitization on protection of road reserves; and
q) performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Duties Under Road Asset & Corridor Management
a) assisting in implementation of road asset Management policies;
b) assisting in undertaking annual road inventory and condition surveys;
c) assisting in compilation and analysis annual road maintenance work programmes;
d) assisting in implementation of road works emergency response programmes;
e) assisting in preparation of tender documentation for road works;
f) assisting in supervision of road maintenance contracts;
g) assisting in road assets protection and surveillance;
h) assisting in implementation and conformance of road management systems;
i) assisting in conducting periodic reviews of the performance standards;
j) assisting in ensuring road maintenance contracts are prepared and implemented in accordance with set standards and specifications;
k) assisting in planning and implementation of roadside developments through institutional consultations and collaboration;
1) assisting in undertaking public sensitization on protection of road reserves; and
m) performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
For appointment to this position, the ideal candidate must:
a) Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized University;
b) Be a Registered Graduate Engineer with the Engineers' Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
c) Be a member in good standing of EBK and IEK;
d) Minimum three (3) years' work experience in road design and construction contract supervision roles in the Public Service or Private Sector; and
e) Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
