Duties
- LAS is provided with high quality legal research, analysis and presentation of key information to facilitate decision-making.
- Appropriate policies, guidelines, procedures and processes are consistently applied.
- Conduct legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues in international law and other areas of specialization such as international public service law using multiple research sources.
- Select relevant material, analyze information and present findings for internal review.
- Assist Senior Legal Officer in the review of legal documents, instruments, or other material.
- Identify important issues, similarities and inconsistencies, etc.
- Assist in the preparation of drafts of background papers, legal opinions, recommendations, reports, etc.
- Assess the relevance or admissibility of evidence gathered by investigators.
- Assist in representing the Organization before arbitral and administrative tribunals.
- Assist in providing legal advice on human resources matters.
- Assist in reviewing administrative decisions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- In close consultation with the Senior Legal Officer, draft legal opinions, recommendations and reports.

Minimum Qualifications Education & Professional Work Experience Years of Experience / Degree Level For P2/NOB -
- 3 years relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or 2 years relevant experience with Graduate degree; or 1 year relevant experience with Doctorate degree

- Relevant Job Experience Essential A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing. Membership in a Bar or qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- Desirable Knowledge of French is strongly desirable. Thorough understanding of the UN system. Strong ability to conduct legal research on a range of complex and intricate issues. Experience in drafting a broad range of documents of a legal nature, including legal opinions, pleadings, contracts and briefing notes. Demonstrated ability to provide oral briefings on complex legal issues to legal and non-legal audiences.
