Our client is a leading aggregator and distributor of music across Africa segments and has recently ventured into content production with a view to build its own repertoire. It has a traditional distribution base is telecom operators, but is also growing rapidly into digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Seeks to hire a skilled Content Manager to handle manage the business relationships. Relationship management is a key aspect to the role that requires resolution of internal and industry wide challenges requiring liaison between the client, content owners, and content aggregators. The job would require extensive travelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquisition – negotiation of contracts, assessment of deal viability, collection of content from Content Partners, and provision of artistic inputs at the time of production where applicable 
  • Deployment – Monitoring the delivery of content by the CMS team to relevant monetization channels 
  • Business Development – securing event bookings, brand/product placement deals, endorsement deals and/or sponsorship deals for artists and content. 
  • Marketing & Promotion – Perform activities to promote the company’s artists and content to achieve the Content monetization targets, especially on radio and tv stations and in clubs. In particular, it would be necessary to work with corporate partners to exploit sponsorship and other business opportunities to promote our artists and content. 
  • IPR Management – With assistance from the legal team, perform all activities necessary for protecting our IPR on exclusive content licenses and ensure that the company always adheres to its obligations towards our partners’ IPR. Maintain strong documentation to ensure all the deliverables in the Content Licenses are executed. 
  • Relationship Management with all the content partners and relevant persons at the Opcos. 
  • Studio – Monitor usage of the client’s recording studio and source studio clients to meet revenue targets, with assistance from a resident studio engineer 
  • Artists & Repertoire: 
    • Source and negotiate content licenses, including the negotiation of price, commercial terms, duration, territory, exclusivities etc. 
    • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with content owners and aggregators. 
    • Ensure that the company is at all times protected from any legal issues that may arise with regards to the digital rights associated with the content. 
    • Stay abreast with content, especially music trends and tastes in the markets to ensure that we have access to ‘hottest’ content. 
    • Protect client’s content from any infringement of our IPR. Maintain relationship with Clients, and content partners. 
    • Produce a monthly report and analysis of content acquisition and sales according to usage and genre’ in order establish trends and to adjust the strategy accordingly. 
    • Send a monthly charts coverage to clients to indicate popularity of content for promotional purposes. 
    • Manage royalty reports to rights holders. 
    • Manage reporting to publishing societies. 
    • Ensure that all record labels are paid timeously. 
  • Marketing 
    • Manage Content Planning via promotions and exclusivity on a roadmap 
    • Provide support to clients and Operators on all content matters on an ad hoc basis. 
    • Monitor overall content marketing by the company’s clients and ensure rollouts are executed according to plan. 
    • Liaising with rights holders to obtain approval for marketing campaigns and ensure that clients adhere to any special requirements. 
    • Promote content across radio and tv stations 
    • Promote content on-ground through DJs and clubs 
  • Studio 
    • Oversee performance and usage of Client’s recording studio in Sandton 
    • Work with resident studio engineer to source clients for bookings to meet monthly revenue targets 

     Qualifications

    • Tertiary degree or diploma. 
    • At least 3 years experience within the Music Industry, either with a record label, radio station or within artist management. Exposure to the mobile content environment is desirable. 
    • Candidate must have a drive and knack for sales and achieving targets. 
    • Candidate must be able to fulfil the position with minimum managerial guidance. 
    • Previous experience working with downloadable content and/or digital media. 
    • Industry contacts. 
    • End-to-end experience in the content value chain with the ability to manage projects from start to finish. 
    • Experience in the development and management of online and mobile portal environments. 
    • Experience in managing and producing reports. 
    • Experience working with content management systems. 
    • Experience working with metadata. 
    • Proven work experience as a Content manager 
    • Hands on experience with MS Office and WordPress 
    • Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics 
    • Familiarity with social media 
    • Excellent writing skills in English 
    • Attention to detail 
    • Good organizational and time-management skills
