OPEN POSITION:
Building Surveyor Draughtsperson (located in Homa Bay)
We are seeking a skilled, reliable, efficient Building Surveyor cum Draughtsperson to join our organization. In this position, you will be responsible for;
i) preparing drawings and construction information from sketch design proposals,
ii) quantify the costs of construction projects, measure and certify ongoing site works
iii) collaborate and coordinate construction activity with management, finance and procurement teams to assure projects’ viability and sustainable achievement of high-quality operational performance standards.
The successful candidate will report to our Project Manager, work on an array of strategic projects and be based at our Roo Bay Farm in Homa Bay County.
What we are looking for:
Strong construction and engineering backgrounds backed by proven project management experience and capacity to proactively engage. Further, a resilient personality coupled with a cordial temperament, a solution-focused outlook and a collaborative work ethic will be an added advantage to candidates.
Qualifications and skill set:
● Bachelor’s degree or diploma in the built environment professions, e.g., building, quantity surveying, construction engineering, planning or other related fields.
● Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D and be conversant with interoperability across leading BIM, GIS and engineering software applications inclusive of MS Project and Excel
● 5+ years’ construction project experience with good estimating and quantifying exposure and competency in compiling and following strict budgets, strong financial analysis skills.
● In-depth knowledge of the AEC Industry Best-Practice workflows, materials and pricing.
● Strong aptitude for numbers, spreadsheets, and financial reports
Main areas of responsibility:
● Work in our Construction Department to prepare working drawings, tender documents, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other construction documentation for all upcoming CapEx projects.
● Prepare and share updates with management and senior executives as directed.
● Identify appropriate construction materials, liaise with the Procurement and Finance departments to ensure timely delivery of materials to project sites.
● Measure and value works executed on sites by our in-house contracting team and external contractors or subcontractors.
● Track construction materials’ issuance usage across projects and movement into and out of inventory.
● Analyze costs for maintenance of our buildings and equipment.
Overall, you will be primarily responsible for administering daily management accounting for the Construction department and supporting high-quality deliverables and timeous project completion across VF.
Additional duties may include but are not limited to;
● Surveying properties to identify structural damage and make recommendations for repairs.
● Inspecting buildings for insurance purposes and advising on relevant legal requirements.
● Advising on energy efficiency and environmental impact.
● Checking properties meet building regulations, accessibility, and fire and health and safety standards.
● Preparing designs from technical specifications.
● Advising operational stakeholders on planning applications and boundary disputes.
● Working in an office, on-site, or at a client’s property.
