About This Role

As the Harvest Evaluation Officer, you are primarily responsible for executing and managing our harvesting plans with our field-based teams. Harvesting is the final piece of the field-based forestry value chain, and requires close coordination with internal and external stakeholders including multiple harvesting teams, transportation providers, the Finance department, and the Processing and Sales teams. As we scale our operations geographically, you will inform continuous design improvements to Harvest’s intricate operational, planning and organizational systems.
The role will be based in Kilifi , Kenya and will report directly to the Harvest Manager.

What You Will Do

  • As the Harvest Evaluation Officer you will utilize tools, technical knowledge, project plans and SOP’s to carry out exercises in the field that will enable Komaza to monitor and carry out our operations to enable informed decisions. You may work in conjunction with several departments to become well informed on M&E practices and to execute well planned strategies in the field.
  • Field Sleuthing: Obtain data from the field in order to substantiate, verify or amend in-house information systems
  • Thinning and Marking of Komaza Woodlots: Execute the thinning and marking strategy of Komaza as outlined in the thinning and marking SOP
  • Spot Checking / Auditing: Assisting departments in determining accuracy of operations, reporting and potentially uncovering events in the field.
  • Forestry Exercises: Obtain metrics on trees and farms including tree diameters, heights, and quality. These exercises may be a standard sampling routine or a more focused, full inventory evaluation
  • Reporting: Capture and record accurate data for reporting purposes.

What You Have

  • Diploma in a technical field and environment will be an added advantage or having a polytechnic certification
  • At least 3 years of field-based experience in wood harvesting, forestry or agroforestry
  • Experience in data collection systems in G-suites and SurveyCTO
  • Understanding of basic computer skills and MS Suite (Word & Excel)Be willing to ride a motorbike, a valid motorbike license will be an added advantage
  • Experience working in a community setting, interacting and collaborating with local administration
