Job description

Burn Manufacturing is looking for a Head of Operations for Electric. The individual will oversee all operations for Burns’ new electric products. The ideal candidate will take a lead role in designing and implementing operational systems for this new business unit. They will work in collaboration with the Managing Director of Electric, Commercial Manager, and Head of Product.

As head of operations, they will direct all operations from production to sales and distribution for all of Burn’s new electric products.  The role will report to the Managing Director for Electric. In addition to coordinating the electric operations, they will work closely with Burn’s Biomass operations to ensure they are well integrated. The role will direct operational groups such as logistics, sales agents, customer care, NOC (network operations center), and facilities. A successful candidate for this position will have strong interpersonal skills to build and inspire the new operations team. This role will have 5-10 direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of an operations organization for the new electric products at Burn. Establish key departments such as Customer Care, NOC, and Sales and Distribution.
  • Grow the operations team by creating the hiring plan for the electric. Conduct interviews and onboard new team members.
  • Work with the commercial manager to design and implement B2C sales operations. 
  • Own the implementation of the product go-to-market plan.
  • Establish a distribution plan for multiple countries across East and West Africa.
  • Work closely with the Market Research Team to support the operational aspect of research pilots.
  • Define facilities needs and collaborate with Burn’s existing inventory and faculties teams.
  • Establish best practices and SOPs for department leads within the electric team.
  • Collaborate with product managers to ensure quick communication and feedback from operations to the product team.
  • Identify software tools and systems to manage operations. Insure system scalability.
  • Monitor direct reports to ensure the quality of implementation.
  • Track operational and system performance and generate regular reports. Identify and address risk.
  • Work closely with the business intelligence team to ensure needed data is being collected from network systems and sales teams.
  • Create structure in ambiguous situations.  
  • Ensure electric operations and systems are well aligned with other Burn operations.  

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Operations Management of digital and physical products.
  • Experience using CRM, and ERP systems.
  • Customer care management.
  • Understanding of network operations and systems.
  • Experience managing multi multidisciplinary teams with multiple direct reports.
  • Degree in business administration.
  • Project management experience.

Desired:

  • Background in Software or Hardware Engineering.
  • Experience with Pay as You Go products.
